There seem to be two parallel realities today regarding Iran’s nuclear program. On the one hand, most of the international community appears to oppose Iran going nuclear, and the Bush administration has helped forge two U.N. Security Council resolutions (despite Russian and Chinese hesitancy) that impose limited sanctions on the Iranian nuclear and missile industries, as well as individuals and entities associated with them. Even though the sanctions were far less stringent than those the administration initially sought, they seem to have created dissonance within the Iranian elite. Criticism of Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has become much more open and far more pointed. One newspaper associated with Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei went so far as to say that Ahmadinejad was using the nuclear issue to divert attention from the failings of his government. As Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns, the administration’s point person on the issue, put it, “We’ve roiled their government, and I think we’ve shocked them a bit.”

That’s the good news. Now the other reality: The Iranians continue to press ahead with their nuclear program.

Astronomers have spotted a cataclysmic explosion that marked the death of a huge, distant star in a blast five times as bright and powerful as any they had seen previously. They said yesterday that a similar fate may be imminent for a star in Earth’s galactic neighborhood.

The size and energy of the newly recorded blast, 240 million light-years away, have already begun to transform scientific understanding of how especially large stars explode, and have left awestruck researchers concerned — and a little excited — about what might happen to the similarly enormous and unstable star closer to home.

If that nearer star, named Eta Carinae, blows up like the one just discovered, they said, it could possibly spew dangerous radiation in Earth’s direction. More likely, however, it would erupt into the most luminous star in our sky — visible during the day and bright enough to let people read unaided at night for weeks and perhaps months.

The new discovery of a massive star exploding in a runaway thermonuclear reaction is especially exciting for scientists, who said it gives them important clues to the nature of the early universe and the formation and destruction of the earliest stars.

“This was a truly monstrous explosion, a hundred times more energetic than a typical supernova,” astronomer Nathan Smith of the University of California at Berkeley said of the exploded star, called SN 2006gy, which was believed to be as massive as a star can be.

“It’s so powerful that it requires a new explanation of how massive stars explode,” Smith said. Unlike most supernovas, which fade quickly, this exploded star has remained extremely bright since it was spotted in September.

Stars approaching this enormous size generally implode when they become unstable, leaving behind a black hole or a neutron star, a cold, extremely dense remnant. Astronomers considered it theoretically possible that such a massive star could instead explode and throw vast amounts of matter into space instead of collapsing, but they had never before witnessed it.

“Discoveries don’t get more exciting than this for a theorist,” said Mario Livio of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, who was not involved in the research but spoke at a NASA news conference yesterday.

“The suggestion is that we may be seeing a new type of explosion mechanism, never seen before, and that the first stars in the universe exploded with this mechanism,” he said. “At the same time, there may be a star in our own galaxy that could do the same thing — tomorrow.”

Livio said the enormous Eta Carinae, which is only 7,500 light-years away in our own Milky Way galaxy, has many features similar to those of the newly discovered exploded star and has been showing signs of instability that could lead to a similar supernova.

The potential danger comes from the fact that explosions of massive stars generally emit jets of intense gamma radiation, among the most powerful and harmful forces in the universe. If Eta Carinae did explode and a jet was pointed in the general direction of the solar system, Livio said, Earth could be endangered. But because the gamma-ray jets tend to be relatively narrow, like the beam of a lighthouse, the odds are that the jet would miss Earth.

Far more likely, Livio said, is that an Eta Carinae explosion “could be the best star show in the history of modern civilization.” That show, however, would be seen only in the Southern Hemisphere.

Stars as massive as Eta Carinae and the distant one that exploded have seldom been found — only a dozen or so have been detected among the 400 billion stars in the Milky Way. Eta Carinae was first observed as an especially bright star in 1843, when it was in the midst of a smaller surge in brightness. The extra luminosity faded around 1870, but the star began to brighten noticeably a century later.

Unlike Eta Carinae, the newly discovered exploding star is not prominent in the sky because it is so far away.

As astronomers peer to the farther reaches of the universe and back into time, they expect to find many more of the superlarge stars, which coalesced and were destroyed in a relatively short time after the Big Bang. These early stars are of enormous interest to astrophysicists because they can help explain how the original few elements of the universe — primarily hydrogen and helium — were fused together inside stars to form the heavier elements. Those stars also had to explode, rather than collapse into black holes, in order for the universe to become populated with the many elements it has.

The SN 2006gy supernova was first detected last September during a routine telescope sweep of the night skies by University of Texas graduate student Robert Quimby.

The extraordinary brightness of the star attracted the interest of astronomers at Berkeley and the University of Texas at Austin. The supernova was also examined at the Lick Observatory in California, at the Keck Observatory in Mauna Kea, Hawaii, and, perhaps most important, by NASA’s orbiting Chandra X-ray Observatory, operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Mass.

Using the Chandra instruments, researchers were able to rule out the most likely alternative explanation for the huge supernova: that a white dwarf star with a mass about that of the sun exploded in a hydrogen-rich environment, leading to the unprecedented brightness.

The Chandra instruments, however, found that the exploded star was not producing the X-ray radiation expected under those conditions. With that established, Berkeley astrophysicist Dave Pooley said, the team became confident that SN 2006gy “was, in fact, the death of an extremely massive star.”

Three years ago, I began a national campaign for academic freedom designed to promote the restoration of academic standards, including intellectual diversity, in institutions of higher learning. I did so having visited more than three hundred campuses in the previous fifteen years and having interviewed several thousand students during these visits. In the course of these visits, I came to be familiar with the massive corruption of the academic enterprise that had occurred since I was an undergraduate in the 1950s, which had transformed large segments of the liberal arts schools into political parties of the academic left. This corruption was the result of a determined campaign by Gramscian radicals to use the universities as a platform for their “transformative” agendas of radical social change. In pursuit of their goals, they had created entire academic departments and fields, while subverting others in order to institute programs of study that were ideological rather than scholarly in content and design. To further these goals, they had instituted a system of intolerance (“political correctness”) to de-legitimize alternative intellectual paradigms and ideas, and had put in place the largest and most effective blacklist in the history of the country, whose purpose was to rid faculties of independent-minded professors, who might interfere with their designs.

For the past two years, Professor Ward Churchill has faced an ongoing battle with his employers at CU. Now, almost a year after being recommended for dismissal by former Chancellor Phil DiStefano, powerful scholars from across the nation are speaking out to reverse Churchill’s discharge.

Law Professor Derrick Bell of New York University’s School of Law, Noam Chomsky of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other prominent professors are involved in this effort and published a letter in the recent edition of the New York Review of Books.

“The New York Review of Books is the most widely read periodical by intellectuals in America and other parts of the world,” said Reggie Dylan on April 2, who worked with Professor Richard Falk in drafting the letter. “(The letter’s) purpose is to draw attention and to make people aware of the gravity of the case and to call on them to do everything they can to challenge the administration.”

In early 2005, Churchill’s Internet-published essay regarding the 9/11 terrorist attacks became a source of criticism. In it, he questioned the innocence of many killed that day and caused an outrage. While Interim Chancellor DiStefano supported Churchill’s right to freedom of speech, he publicly condemned the statements made in the essay.

After over a year of review and investigation, the University’s Standing Committee on Research Misconduct recommended that Churchill be penalized for repeated acts of “serious research misconduct” in June of 2006. In August of that year, the University of Colorado Student Union (UCSU) passed a resolution supporting the university’s decision to fire Professor Churchill.

Shortly after, scholars from across the country began showing their support for Churchill. Dylan said that the opposition for the case has been kept out of the public eye until recently and that there are a growing number of scholars from around the country who support the reversal of the pending dismissal. The publication of the letter is meant to encourage more people to speak out.

He said that the letter is just the beginning of a new wave of outrage and that newspapers from around the country are asking that copies of the letter be printed in their papers.

The letter states, in part, “The relentless pursuit of and punitive approach of the University of Colorado at Boulder to Professor Ward Churchill is a revealing instance of the ethos that is currently threatening academic freedom. The voice of the university and intellectual community needs to be heard strongly and unequivocally in defense of dissent and critical thinking. And one concrete expression of such a resolve is to oppose the recommended dismissal of Ward Churchill from his position as a senior tenured faculty member.”

The bigger issue, Dylan claimed, is the way CU President Hank Brown was hired (he recently announced his plans to retire in 2008). He said that Brown, a former Republican senator, is a co-founder of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), which claimed that American universities are the “weak link” in the country’s defense of terrorism. Brown replaced former CU President Elizabeth Hoffman almost immediately after she stated that Churchill’s case resembled McCarthyism.

“Brown is now in a position to decide whether Churchill will be fired,” Dylan said. “He claims he is an honest broker and (that) he hasn’t made a decision. This is an absolute lie. Brown was brought into the university to get rid of Churchill.”

Ken Mcconnellogue, the associate vice president for university relations, said this claim is false. He said that President Brown was brought to the university to do the job of a president and that the notion he was brought to CU for “this one expressed purpose is ridiculous.

“People are free to express their opinions and if they want to do that through a paid advertisement, that’s their prerogative,” Mcconnellogue said in regard to the letter.

Former CU professional research assistant Ernesto Vigil, who was employed with the Center for Study of Ethnicity and Race in America (CSERA) from 1989-1990, delivered a notarized document consisting of 30 pages about Churchill to Regent Hall in April 2005. According to Colorado Daily archives, Vigil believed the paper proved that Churchill was not an American Indian and that he committed academic fraud on multiple occasions.

“Ward Churchill is a fake and this has been known for a long time,” Vigil told the Colorado Daily in 2005. “This stuff is not new. These aren’t new revelations.”

According to the article, several professors have doubted some of Churchill’s research on Native American history. Professor Fay G. Cohen of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia reported that Churchill plagiarized an essay she wrote about Indian fishing treaty rights.

CU alumnus and director of the Independence Institute’s Campus Accountability Project, a higher education policy center dedicated to free speech, individual rights and fiscal accountability Jessica Peck Corry authored a report on legal standards for inquiry in the Churchill investigation. In the report, she stated that not only does CU have the legal right to dismiss Professor Churchill, but also the legal responsibility.

“Education is about honoring truth, always and everywhere,” the report states. “Tenure is about keeping your word, a two-way contractual obligation. Hence academic freedom confers no license to lie. By this standard, and nothing less, must all our universities and all their professors be judged.”

She states that in order for the university to withhold its “professional integrity and academic legitimacy,” CU should terminate the Churchill’s position as a tenured professor. Corry acknowledges the professor’s right to the First Amendment, but believes that there are grounds for dismissal due to his actions that concur with the Laws of the Regents provisions for the termination of tenured faculty including “his demonstrable professional incompetence, his neglect of duty, and his flagrant, persistent failure to meet minimum standards of professional integrity.”

“At this point, any defense of Ward Churchill is simply a defense of bad scholarship and bad ethics,” Corry said in an e-mail Wednesday. “While three years have passed since thousands of people across America called for Churchill’s resignation, CU is still trying to fire him at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to taxpayers.”

Many university students and officials continue to stand behind Professor Churchill and believe in the reversal of his dismissal. Throughout the remainder of the week, the Students and Faculty for True Academic Freedom (STAF) will hold numerous local events in support of him.

The publication of the letter is meant to encourage more people to speak out.

He said that the letter is just the beginning of a new wave of outrage and that newspapers from around the country are asking that copies of the letter be printed in their papers.

The letter states, in part, “The relentless pursuit of and punitive approach of the University of Colorado at Boulder to Professor Ward Churchill is a revealing instance of the ethos that is currently threatening academic freedom. The voice of the university and intellectual community needs to be heard strongly and unequivocally in defense of dissent and critical thinking. And one concrete expression of such a resolve is to oppose the recommended dismissal of Ward Churchill from his position as a senior tenured faculty member.”

The bigger issue, Dylan claimed, is the way CU President Hank Brown was hired (he recently announced his plans to retire in 2008). He said that Brown, a former Republican senator, is a co-founder of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), which claimed that American universities are the “weak link” in the country’s defense of terrorism. Brown replaced former CU President Elizabeth Hoffman almost immediately after she stated that Churchill’s case resembled McCarthyism.

“Brown is now in a position to decide whether Churchill will be fired,” Dylan said. “He claims he is an honest broker and (that) he hasn’t made a decision. This is an absolute lie. Brown was brought into the university to get rid of Churchill.”

Ken Mcconnellogue, the associate vice president for university relations, said this claim is false. He said that President Brown was brought to the university to do the job of a president and that the notion he was brought to CU for “this one expressed purpose is ridiculous.

“People are free to express their opinions and if they want to do that through a paid advertisement, that’s their prerogative,” Mcconnellogue said in regard to the letter.

Former CU professional research assistant Ernesto Vigil, who was employed with the Center for Study of Ethnicity and Race in America (CSERA) from 1989-1990, delivered a notarized document consisting of 30 pages about Churchill to Regent Hall in April 2005. According to Colorado Daily archives, Vigil believed the paper proved that Churchill was not an American Indian and that he committed academic fraud on multiple occasions.

“Ward Churchill is a fake and this has been known for a long time,” Vigil told the Colorado Daily in 2005. “This stuff is not new. These aren’t new revelations.”

According to the article, several professors have doubted some of Churchill’s research on Native American history. Professor Fay G. Cohen of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia reported that Churchill plagiarized an essay she wrote about Indian fishing treaty rights.

CU alumnus and director of the Independence Institute’s Campus Accountability Project, a higher education policy center dedicated to free speech, individual rights and fiscal accountability Jessica Peck Corry authored a report on legal standards for inquiry in the Churchill investigation. In the report, she stated that not only does CU have the legal right to dismiss Professor Churchill, but also the legal responsibility.

“Education is about honoring truth, always and everywhere,” the report states. “Tenure is about keeping your word, a two-way contractual obligation. Hence academic freedom confers no license to lie. By this standard, and nothing less, must all our universities and all their professors be judged.”

She states that in order for the university to withhold its “professional integrity and academic legitimacy,” CU should terminate the Churchill’s position as a tenured professor. Corry acknowledges the professor’s right to the First Amendment, but believes that there are grounds for dismissal due to his actions that concur with the Laws of the Regents provisions for the termination of tenured faculty including “his demonstrable professional incompetence, his neglect of duty, and his flagrant, persistent failure to meet minimum standards of professional integrity.”

“At this point, any defense of Ward Churchill is simply a defense of bad scholarship and bad ethics,” Corry said in an e-mail Wednesday. “While three years have passed since thousands of people across America called for Churchill’s resignation, CU is still trying to fire him at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to taxpayers.”

Many university students and officials continue to stand behind Professor Churchill and believe in the reversal of his dismissal. Throughout the remainder of the week, the Students and Faculty for True Academic Freedom (STAF) will hold numerous local events in support of him.

19 April 2007 – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today welcomed the statement by a committee of League of Arab States regarding the resuscitation of the Arab Peace Initiative, which in the past he has called one of the pillars of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Yesterday’s announcement by the Arab Ministerial Committee for the Arab Peace Initiative “indicates increased engagement of the League of Arab States to reinvigorate the peace process,” according to a statement issued by Mr. Ban’s spokesperson.

The Initiative, adopted during the Beirut Arab Summit in March 2002, is based on the principle of land for peace.

The plan calls for Israeli withdrawal from all Arab lands occupied since 1967, recognition of an independent Palestinian State and provision of a just solution to the issue of Palestinian refugees. In return, Arab countries would recognize Israel, end their conflict and normalize relations.

Mr. Ban also “looks forward to meeting with” the Initiative’s Ministerial Committee, which was created by the League to promote the peace process.

In his opening address at the League of Arab States summit last month, Mr. Ban said that the Initiative “suggests a new way forward for the region” after decades of division over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Car bombs, as well as other explosions and shootings, killed 34 people across the country Wednesday. At least 21 U.S. soldiers have been killed since Saturday…”  quotes fox news today.  The country referred to in the article is
Iraq.  Here is a little statistic that might surprise you.  5702 people die in the year 2005.  Where did they die?  On the job in the USA!  That averages out to approximately 16 people dying on the job every single day of the year.  If we were to calculate that into a normal work week it amounts to approximately 24 work related fatalities every single work day.  This doesn’t account for fatalities across the country due to violence, auto accidents, surprises, or just plain carelessness.  If we were to follow the logic that on some days 21 soldiers are killed in the War on Terror therefore we should pull out of the War on Terror, then, because there are approximately 24 people killed per day due to whatever causes deaths on the job in America, we should all pull out of whatever company we work for whether it be a mom and pop or a transnational corporation, or anything in between. And then here is another idea. What if we just left all of the civilians opposed to being in Iraq working while the rest of us leave? What the…?

The end of the Carter Administration and subsequent Reagan administrations were the proving grounds for Pre-Teens and Teen-Agers of my generation.

Without a doubt the Da Vinci code by Dan Brown could be construed as in the least sense controversial.  For those that want to go further with that thought, whether they've read the book or not, or just read biased reviews, or even read the debunking and myths involved about the book, could bomblast the whole notion and premise as abject blasphemy… as long as those doing so regard it as fact and not fiction.  (I wonder how those same people felt about "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in the eighties?)  which is what it was intended to be.  ( I view it sort of in the sense that if I don't get all worked up about an issue or proposition in front of my children, then neither will they get worked up over it, and we can have a calm, logical discussion about the differences between fact and fiction.)  There are ideas in the Da Vinci code that could be taken as denying the deity of Jesus Christ, the true and only Son Of God who shed His blood and died by crucifixion, and was raised from the dead by the hand of an Omnipotent and ever loving God and Father, to ascend into the Fathers home for the purpose of being the perfect sacrifice and the salvation of the souls of humanity.  Again, these ideas were written as fiction.  I hold the view that if ideas are dangerous, it is because the body of Christ has relinquished its responsibilities of extending to every human the love that Christ died to show and the faith that His Holy Spirit produces.  What is very wrong about all of this is that the "Body" is all "up in Arms over a Movie or book that was actually well written, ( if read as fiction) but is completely missing the largest conundrum we as Christians face in the present tense.

Thirteen Centuries of religious repression is resurfacing.  We in America sit here with our "Bill" that says we have freedom from religion, which protects us, at least until some supreme court farce 're-interprets' our rights as United States Citizens, and the incipient infusion of Islam becomes acceptable.  But what about the rest of the world that is being slowly undermined by Muslim jihadist values?  They don't have the choice.  If Islam becomes the religion and ideology of a nation, all non-muslims become second rate citizens, with new imposed values such as;

1) the inequality of rights in all domains between Muslims and dhimmis; 

2) the social and economic discrimination of the dhimmis; 

3) the humiliation and vulnerability of the dhimmis.

and ultimately "the lives of the dhimmis and their property being

forfeited.

These are all excellent arguements to continue the "Good Fight".  But what we as Americans are failing to realize while we masticate every word in the Davinci code in an attempt to prove that it ultimately denies the deity of Christ, is that the infusion around us called Islam absolutely denies the deity of Christ.  We have such outrage and passion against fiction in the name of adverse sensitivities, but where is the Outrage, nay the responsibility, to expose and wage spiritual warfare against what is factual, and an imminent threat.  Thirteen centuries of Christians cried "Our God Reigns" in silence and behind closed doors because of Dhimmitude, we as Americans need to wake up to the Spiritual cause at hand.  If for no other reason to wage spiritual war in the Name of Christ for those of the world that can be enslaved.

Here it is folks.  The next step is to get other muslim countries to conform.  Then anybody who isn't a Muslim will have to pay a special tax and will not be qualified for "Good" jobs.

This sounds good to those without ears.  Islam means submission.  This group seems to be kowtowing to that.  Israel is still a stated menace that needs to be wiped off the map and Christians will still be subjected to a dhimi or have their heads lopped off.  Does no one read history anymore.  Or has man evolved to the point where even if he is stating nihilist goals he is inherently good and couldn't possibly do something like that.  We're coming to the point where if it is muslim it is okay… and that is NOT okay.

Evidently the idea behind the emerging education construct (Post-Modernist Syndrome) is that of educating children about the concepts and understandings of their place in society.  A society which has at the helm monetarily challenged minority women who are now deemed the only ones capable of allocating resources and determining the directions of nations.

To grasp the concept of post-modernism, one must adhere to the concept of reversing the magnetic poles of the Socio-Politico-cultural world. i.e. our current situation accomodates everything to a white, male, affluent supremacy and is in absolute need of complete deconstructionist rendering. ( I guess it would be like so much waste being scooped off of the top of rendered butter.)  A big kudo for ZSM.  Very shortly leaders of nations will be making the same as the immigrant workers they ignore sifting through their border protections.

Somebody once asked, "Why does Iran want nuclear capabilities"? And a lot of people were wondering why Iran needs nuclear capabilities. I believe Iranian armed forces joint chief of staff, General Hassan Firouzabadi put it most succinctly:

"When a people master nuclear technology and nuclear fuel, nothing can be done against the."

With a voiced foreign policy that calls for Israel (which happens to be a sovereign nation) to be wiped off of the map, I have to wonder if there isn't a bit more to General Hassan Firouzabadi's words.

Coloradoconservative.com has an excellent piece on the continuing debacle played out by the religious mis-fit. Dennis Prager at townhall.com also has some good ideas about the whole idea of freedom of speech that we as Americans have fought, bled for and protected for over two centuries. And as a Christian, American, and a crusader of sorts, I believe that we should respect the religion of Islam, as well as Hinduism, Budhism, Satanism, and every other religion out there that has adherents to its precepts. Oh, did I forget CHRISTIANITY! How dare me forget the very God of existence and salvation in my roll call of beings to be worshipped and adored. But to me it seems that Christianity has not only been put on the back burner for many years, but seen as a source and point of contention, ridicule and abject blasphemy. That isn’t what really bothers me though. What really gets under my skin is that the very people who have denied God and His existence for many, many years are falling all over themselves trying to prostate their-selves towards Mecca. Why, because a religious cult might have nuclear weapons and in lieu of annihilation we should bow to the old God become new. I don’t think so.
It makes my heart glad to know that the liberals and atheists aren’t so hard hearted after all. But may I postulate that with all of the antagonism toward Christianity, and if Christianity is the “way to God and heaven”, then whatever is not Christ centered isn’t from God or going to Heaven. With this being said, The religion of Islam isn’t just a juxtaposition of Isaac and Ishmael, but an enemy of God, and if, therefore an enemy of God, an enemy to half of the America or better that does believe in Him.

With that being said let me submit a corollary. Had this been before the death and resurrection of Christ, I imagine that we would have a mandate to wipe out the Infidel, taking no prisoners and leaving nothing of theirs to be found or used. But with the advent of the resurrection we have a new mandate. Christ said that there is no way to the Father except through Him and that he who believed on Him should have everlasting life. He also said that He did not come to earth to condemn its people but to save them and grant them an eternal life with the Father. He goes to His fathers house to prepare a place for us. The last I checked, this implied in no way that we should annihilate any other religion but offer to every being on this earth the grace and love that God himself shows to all people.

There are those that would submit that Islam is a peaceful religion. Peace is accomplished through a sense of self-worth and security that comes from knowing the Fathers heart. With the current state of affairs in the State of Islam, I have to wonder who their father really is.

And Then There Were Three.

For those of the world who have seen the movie “Fight Club”, or read the book that it
was based on, this may not seem so incredible.  Or maybe you have just been paying attention to the increasing number of so called rogue institutions that have cropped up since say, oh, World War 2.  What is amazing though, is that it seems that there are a couple of options here.  Either nobody of consequence is actually paying attention, or, it is taking a bureaucratically and purgatorial amount of time to profligate a policy of protection against the possibilities of perpetual border sniping and infiltration.

In David Fromkin’s book, “A Peace to End All Peace”, he makes a corollary
between the unrealized causes of World War One and Middle East tensions
that weren’t so apparently prevalent, or easily discovered, due to an
inability to gather intelligence in a region that here-to-for had not been
mapped for the West.
Forward almost a century…In the Middle East there is a new leader – one who has acquired nuclear capabilities. (Before,and after) Whether that capability was transferred from a former regime during the U.N’s elusive “cooling off” period or not remains to be revealed by those in the know, when it is safe and convenient to do so. Nevertheless, he is a new player on a global Block and for all appearances intends to wield a power either for himself or at the behest of another that could winnow the Earths flock…

Islam, in a sense is a religion that adheres to the view that human nature
is inherently evil and that there is a just and contrite punishment for
whenever and however that evil might decide to show itself. In order to
keep control of its’ adherents, it must subvert any notions that might
question its validity. Which is why intellectualism and “free thought” are
ideas that are shunned rather than promulgated for the good of those involved,
and it’s leaders have a propensity toward isolationism and fear.
It comes off as an amalgam of a failed version of communism confounded even
more by the words of a vociferous and punishing God spoken through none other
than a prophet.
All of this rather than just another version of an abusive authoritarian.
For now we’ll call it a variation on a scheme.

It's 2006. There are children in pre-school and kindergarten and even some first- and second-graders who don't remember a thing about 9/11. They don't remember the sickening pull in everyone's gut when they saw the towers burst into flames or the long collapse down, down, down, down into dust. It's been a while hasn't it?

Given all this time has passed, isn't it time we call a truce in the War on Terror? We no longer fear going outside and life again centers on Super Bowls and political grandstanding over things like judicial appointments. We don't need to fight anymore…or do we?

Let's take a look at what we've accomplished…

• Afghanistan and Iraq have the first real chance at succeeding in crawling out of their political hell after our military invasions. Come on, folks. You really think they were better off under Omar and the scurvy little spider called Saddam?
• Al Qaeda has not had the resources to launch a major attack in the western hemisphere
• Spies and traitors (and they are) have been apprehended, from the Shoe Bomber to Jose Padilla.
• Hussein, trial antics aside, stands a slight chance of losing his head to the religion he paid lip service to. Megalomaniacs and supermen beware.

Let's not be remiss to review what we've thus far failed to do…

• Usama bin Laden still has not been captured, although his health is very, very questionable. Mullah Omar and friends are likely keeping him company.
• We did not prevent the Spanish train bombings of 3/11/04 (not 2 years distant), nor the London Underground bombings of 7/7/2005, only 214 days ago as of this writing.
• Iraq managed to spirit away it's WMD to Syria. Iran, not to be left out, is ramping up it's nuke program. By the way, Michelle Malkin makes a great point of how this fury against the Danish is Iranian pressure on the IAEA.
• Our southern border leaks like a sieve and one can easily wonder if a vial of smallpox has made it's way in. If you thought a suicide bomber was bad…

Clearly, we are not safe. Physical safety from your enemies depends on chance or God (depending on your beliefs). We have much work we could be doing to increase our safety but aren't. Tighten the borders? Oh, but then we'd tick off the produce industry for taking all their illegal–I say immoral–and cheap labor. Force Syria to cough up the WMDs? Not without Israelis standing with guns in the middle of Damascus conducting a search. The French wouldn't stand for that, and everyone loves the French.

Relentless pressure is the only option we have. We must keep it up.
